Africa Travel- Dangerous Animals
November 3, 2008 by admin
African wildlife safari attacks are extremely rare especially when you talk of tourists being attacked by wild animals. Inside parks there are strict rules and most will not allow you to come out of your vehicle.
Also in cases where huge animals like elephants are involved, tour guide are often trained and experienced in dealing with elephants which are sensitive creatures and can sometimes charge when frightened.
Even elephants in most African parks are used to seeing humans in vehicles and will rarely attack a vehicle. The adrenaline rush of being face to face with such a huge beast that could easily smash your vehicle is to say the least a unique experience.
Elephants will not often charge before giving due warning which include flapping their ears, stomping their feet and sometimes trumpeting, all of which should surely turn your legs into jelly.
Africa’s wildlife isn’t as bad as you might fear, and you shouldn’t have any trouble if you heed the rules of the park or reserve you are in, which means never leaving the safety of your vehicle expect at specially designated areas such as picnic sites, or else being accompanied by an armed ranger.
Scorpions and spiders are ever seen even on the beach. Scorpion stings are painful but almost never fatal(Clean the wound and pack with ice to slow down the spread of the venom, then see a doctor) African spiders are mostly harmless.
Snakes are common but again the vast majority are harmless and to see a snake at all, you’d need to search stealthily; even walking heavily will make most snake species disappear before you get there.
