Most visitors to Mauritius visit this tropical Island paradise for beach vacations, but the Northern part of this Island also offers a chance to visit the Nicoliere Mountains and the Royal Botanical Gardens inland.
Fot those sports enthusiasts there are a lot of activities including big game fishing, golf, scuba diving and other watersports which you will often find in most tourist hotels.
At Grand Baie one can also experience the unique experience of undersea walking. Yatchs can also be hired from a number of tour operators.
If you are looking for things to take back home, there is shopping galore for locally produced clothes and artefacts. In Goodlands one can visit the model shipbuilding factory.
In the north there are a wide range of restaurants offering different cuisines in various hotels and also in the villages of Trou aux Biches, Pointe aux Canoniers and Grand Baie. nightclubs and jazz clubs are also concentrated in Grand Baie and Pereybere, and Trou aux biches has a Casino.
The best time to visit the North of Mauritius Islands is April to June and September to November. This does not however mean that one should avoid visiting at other times because these areas are pleasant at any time of the year.
The peak season is between December and early January and at these times holiday packages cost more. During the months of February its often hot, sticky and rainy and it is at this time when cyclones could occur.
